Jamie Cross - View Tattoo Gallery - Email Artist

Hello! My name is Jamie Cross. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968. I got my first tattoo when I was 13. This older kid just got out of juvenile detention and was tattooing one of my friends. I watched and I wanted one. He wrapped a piece of thread around a needle. Then he burnt a piece of the Cincinnati Post in a bowl until it was ashes. He mixed a drop of water in it and then started poking a cross on my finger. I was so amazed that I didn't even feel it. Before you know it I started carving up everyone in junior high. Parents were not happy but it didn't matter cause my dad was big! But I did get my ass beat when I came home with that cross on my finger. I asked why; when you have tattoos all over your arms. He said these tattoos have meaning. He never told me the meaning of the hula girl. Anyway, I had always been into drawing and painting so I continued carving kids up. I met this kid named Mark in high school and he had a cassette motor connected to a pen. He helped me make one and that was it I was doing tattoo parties. I met this older kid named Barney Hewitt who had a real tattoo. He was tattooed by Dana Brunson. This was in the 80's and he was the only one around. Now there are a lot of great artists in Cincinnati like Jimmy Shadow, Jamie Edwards, Cory Flatmo, and Mike Dorsey to name a few. I got my first real tattoo in Dayton, Ohio by an old guy named Glen. It was a little room in his basement. There were designs all over the walls. My eyes went right to a skull and I said "That one!" That was the start of my new addiction. I needed more. I moved to Westfield, MA in 89. I found a tattoo magazine and saw an ad for tattoo equipment. I saved some money and drove to New York to get it. I continued tattooing the neighborhood. I tattooed this guy who worked at a head shop and he said it would be cool to tattoo at a head shop. We went to the town and got everything legal. Cool, I had my first job tattooing. Vibrations Smoke Shop (thanks Don King R.I.P.) After a couple of months Tim Brewer from Body Graphics came by and offered me a job. Now I had some teachers thanks to Tim Brewer, Brett Bryan, Paul Musso, Gypsy Putman, and Rob Matfess. Thanks! After 5 years I moved on and worked at other shops. I would like to thank them all. Greenman Tattoo, W.Hartford, CT, Pisst Fish Tattoo, W.Spfld, MA, Art For Life, Brattleboro, VT, (thanks Mike C.), Lucky's Tattoo, Northampton, MA, Body Graphics North, Spfld, MA, and now I have my own shop Nitemare Tattoo, Westfield, MA 413-572-0437. This is where I tattoo, paint, and do digital art. So if your in the area stop by and check out our work and our art gallery. peace,Jamie Cross

I've been open since 05 and have been tattooing since around the summer of 2004. I really enjoy doing custom tattoos. I think it's far more rewarding for both the artist, and the client to do something completely original. I like where the tattoo industry is headed and look forward to seeing what the future holds for custom tattooing.

Jeff Gogue - View Tattoo Gallery - Email Artist

I'm Jeff Gogue (pronounced go-gway). I did my first tattoo in August of 1999, and began tattooing full time August of 2000. Self taught, I've been influenced by people like Robert Hernandez, Nikko Hurtado, Shige, Bob Tyrrell, and Joe Capobianco. I've been somewhat mentored by Cory Norris of Classic Tattoo, Grass Valley, California, and Kevin Cox of Aces Tattoo, in Reno Nevada. I really want to strive for creative, dynamic, refined work. Not necessarily "photo-realistic" but detailed where needed, and loose where it's appropriate. I also love oil painting when I can, and have been doing so, off and on, for the last couple years. I am expressive by nature. I'm transparent, but multifaceted, revealing some contrasts and mysterious ways. You can't see all of who I am from any one angle, so, in my quest for relevance, I am trying to expose as much as I can bare to. This stage in my life is fairly new, since I feel that up until the last year or two, I've only been striving for technical ability... just to be good at manipulating paint or ink or whatever, doesn't send any message besides being disciplined and methodical. I am ready to see what's inside... though it leaves me vulnerable to disappointment, both in myself and in everyone else... I am still ready. I don't think anyone lives completely honest. We all hide that which we are ashamed of. Desiring to minimize our faults and maximize our strengths. I'm no different, but I'm willing to see how honest I can be. I'm sure it will take time, since all I know is just that.

I believe that when you know, you know! When I got it in my mind that I wanted to tattoo, it was life changing. A few times throughout life there are moments like these and they're incredibly powerful. That happened for me around the age of 15. Unfortunately, at that time, tattooing was illegal in the state of Massachusetts where I am from. I would get every tattoo magazine I could find and re-draw every design in it to practice.

In 2001, we were all lucky enough to see the tattoo ban lifted thanks to Stephan Lanphear. He sued the state for 10 years and we all owe him a huge thank you! Shortly after that I got an apprenticeship, and thats where my tattooing adventure began. During the summer of 2002 I had opportunities to travel some both to Martha's Vineyard and North Carolina to spend time with the 2 guys that have had the greatest impact on my career-- Stephan Lanphear and Little John Bury. Both of whom I've had the honor to work for. In of June 2009, I moved back to Massachusetts and now I am proud to finally get my own studio up and running!!! The studio is called Always and Forever Tattoos and is located in Watertown, MA.. We are located right outside Boston and I am so proud of this accomplishment..

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing and creating. It has always been the perfect escape. I like to work with many different mediums and materials but usually end up mixing them together. Mostly, I work on mixed media sculptures with doll parts, bird cages, shadow boxes, found objects, fake flowers, paints, charcoal, pencil/colored pencils, etc etc... I could go on and on!! I have also enjoyed doing photography for many years. Mostly for fun, but I enjoy sharing what I have had the luck of documenting in my travels. Being an artist in every way I can is my life.. LIVE FOR THIS!!!!

In the 10 years of my career so far, I have strived to become a very well rounded tattoo artist and be able to work in almost any style. I do prefer bright color, black and gray, asian brush paint style, traditional, realistic, flowers, skulls, etc.. I work mainly on tattoos that are designed to fit your body and yours alone. I really look forward to the process of collaborating with my clients, bringing their ideas to life, and watching the piece evolve whether its a large scale design covering an entire body part or a tiny tat.

To date, I have had the honor of working at several conventions all over the east coast. I helped out with the first 2 Boston Conventions, tattooed at the Marked For Life Female Convention in Orlando Florida, Motor City Convention in Detroit, Inkin' The Valley in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania and the North Carolina Convention in Greensboro presented by Little Johns Tattoo. I have also been honored to win several awards over the last few years at some of these conventions including 1st place Tattoo of the Day Friday at Marked For Life convention 2008, 2nd place Tattoo of the Day and Most Creative Artist of the year 2009 at the Marked for Life Convention and my favorite award Most Sensitive Tattoo Guy at the NC Tattoo Convention in 2006!!

I find nothing more satisfying than watching my client's ideas come to life as well as the joy I get seeing someone go to look at their new adornment for the first time and see a smile come over their face. I love what I do and I take nothing for granted!! So if you would like to acquire a piece of artwork or a tattoo, it would be my pleasure!

When growing up, Matt Myrdal’s mother’s concerns were 1) don’t ever listen to heavy metal, and 2) don’t ever get a tattoo. But, by high school, the heavy metal and hardcore music scene took him under its wing and led Matt towards his future.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BFA in animation, Matt spent the next few years putting out music and touring the US with his hardcore metal band grimlock. During his travels, Matt saw various styles of tattoos across the country, and his passion for tattoo art increased dramatically.

When his music career came to an end, Matt decided to pursue a tattoo apprenticeship. He moved to Hawaii and spent a brief period in California until finally returning to Massachusetts to officially begin his apprenticeship at Pino Bros Ink in February, 2005. Since becoming a licensed professional, Matt has continued to work at Pino Bros. Despite his mother’s initial concerns of metal and tattoos, she is in full support of where he is today. Aloha.

It all began when I was 12. Yupp, 12 years old I tattooed my brother. Crazy to think huh? Don't worry I didn't start tattooing customers until I was 20. I worked my butt off when I first started at Devotion Ink. Tattooing everyday, drawing at night, inspired by many artist to one day have art that is appreciated. Now five years later to be here at Off The Map Tattoo is a huge honor. I love working in an environment with true artist who also love what they do. It is a huge motivator to push myself and practice my art everyday. Take the time to look through some of my work, and maybe I'll tattoo you soon!

I have had a passion for art, in many different forms, since a very young age. Before becoming a tattoo artist, I worked as a freelance illustrator and graffiti artist. Urban art and graffiti is what gave me inspiration to start tattooing and has influenced my work ever since. While I take pride in being able to produce whatever style of tattoo my client wants, I prefer to have some degree of freedom of creativity on the pieces that I work on.  I take the images and ideas that my client has and apply my own style and creativity to it, adding originality and customizing the design to best suit the client’s body.  As a result of my desire to create a tattoo that is truly original and made to specifically fit the individual client, I only do custom work.  When you get a tattoo from me, you should expect something different from a normal tattoo.  Current projects I’m interested in working on are in the bio-organic style: abstract designs with an organic feel interspersed with concrete elements from nature.

Mathew Clarke - View Tattoo Gallery - Email Artist

Being a young introvert I naturally immersed myself in various forms of art, Painting, drawing and a few other experiments, I settled for many years in the custom car culture, hot rods, custom bikes and anything with cool paint and a set of wheels. The custom paint and art on these vehicles drew my interest in art further, occasionally getting into airbrush work and graphic designs. My interest in tattooing began before I was old enough to get a tattoo my self. Often I would drive my older buddy’s north to the tattoo shops along the borders, tattooing was still illegal where I grew up. Being into art and somewhat into the culture it seemed only natural for me to progress towards tattooing. I headed north at 18 just after graduation, landed an apprenticeship and began to get to work, only to have the owner take my cash and split after only a week leaving a small shop and the rent due at the end of the month! So there was nothing left for me to do but turn on the old neon open sign and get to it, This was back in 1993 and things were a bit different then, Styles, techniques, and attitude to name a few, I got away with a lot back then and sometimes not. I eventually met and became friends with some very talented artist, traveled a bit and worked real hard. So here I am with a lot under my belt, but still learning and growing in the best business in the world… Tattooing. -Mathew

He graduated high school and went on to Paier College of Art where he graduated with bachelors in Fine Arts. It was there that he started work on his sleeve and his passion for tattoos grew. Out of college Ricky got a job working as a special ed. Tutor, which he did for 6 years. It wasn’t until his fiancé lead him to Megan Jean that he realized he could actually become a tattoo artist. Ricky apprenticed under Megan and found he really loved doing black and grey and realism. He now enjoys doing portraits or anything else with a more realistic look. He is constantly looking to improve and grow as an artist. He has less time to skateboard now, though looking at his skating you would never know, but he is very happy with the direction his career is going and the team he’s working with.

I was lucky enough to have a very famous artist here Kent Tattoo apprentice me and after that I was on my way to a constantly learning journey.People ask me if tattooing is easy?I always tell them it depends on your effort and desire.  The most limiting factor is patience. If an artist has patience to put in effort and always be teachable and be willing to learn and stay humble you will always get the best maximal output. From 1997 to 2004 I became used to doing tribal, biomechanical, old school, new school, oriental and I still enjoy those styles, however my passion is realism.Portraits, animals, things, scenes etc.If you have a decent photo of what you want I can usually tattoo it.

Megan Jean Morris - View Tattoo Gallery - Email Artist

Megan Jean Morris, the owner, is a tattoo artist and a painter.   She specializes in portraits, realism, and surrealism in black and grey or color.  In 2005, Megan Jean worked and studied as an apprentice under Adam Gordon at Mr.Adam's Tattoos in Farmington, Maine. She continued working at Mr. Adam's for five years while developing an understanding for the many different aspects of tattooing.

Megan Jean's Education

In her formative years, Megan Jean's compulsory drive to develop as a fine artist lead her to attend Interlochen, the distinguished Summer Art Academy where she had the privilege of studying Life Drawing and Anatomy under Julie Saecker Schneider.  Megan Jean's portfolio awarded her merit scholarships to Rhode Island School of Design, Carnegie Mellon, and Syracuse University, and it was there, in upstate New York, where Megan Jean completed her Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design.  During her time at Syracuse, Megan Jean studied under the designer Don Carr, and discovered invaluable philosophies of design that she applies to her own artistry, as well as painting, with one of America's greatest Living Figure artists, Jerome Witkin.

And a word about her paintings:

Relating to ourselves, as we are, along with the world as it occurs to us, is what beyond all else, captivates Megan Jean's focus.  She is uninterested with the singular "Truth" yet captivated by our plethora of constructed "truths".  Her paintings convey new perspectives, unseen options and identities while adding in overtones of the sarcastic, wise, comedic, and loving.

Utilizing thin coats of transparent oil veneers, Megan Jean composes her paintings layer by layer, which helps to achieve a rich surface with deep colors.  Her compositions encourage the eye on its journey over the canvas and onward into your own experience of life.

I enjoy tattooing realistic imagery, portraits, and freehand designs. I do many bright colorful pieces, although lately I've been working a lot more in black and grey as well.

In the future I hope to learn many more approaches to style and technique from all the great artists I have the good fortune of working with, and look forward to redefining my work in both painting, and tattooing.

I am known for my perfect lines, vibrant colors and deep 3-dimensional black & greys. I take on every new tattoo with a "this one will be my best yet" attitude. I never let any client feel rushed or less important than another client. I naturally have a new school artistic style using varying line weights and multiple light sources. I also really enjoy doing realism such as people and animal portraits. I thrive on designing one of a kind tattoos for my clients. Noone wants to bump into someone else with the same tattoo. I often devote an entire day or more to a client to acheive their tattooing goal. I am not a "stamp it on and get them out" type of tattoo artist. Around 10 years of age, Chloe was relocated from Southern Florida to Central Massachusetts and continued her art education with various classes in many mediums at the Worcester Art Museum. These lessons continued until Chloe was 18 years old and began her tattoo career.

Chloe's tattoo work is predominantly color and, though she loves working in many styles, the main style of her work could be described as 'illustrative realism.' The subjects Chloe most often takes on are plant and animal life, landscapes, pet portraits, food items and still lifes, however she is always up to a challenge.

When not tattooing, Chloe enjoys colored pencil sketching, painting in acrylic, water color, and oils, folding origami, and frolicking with unicorns. She is also a huge fan of Star Wars, Lord of the Ring, Harry Potter, Ghost Busters, Jurassic Park, and Venture Brothers.

The Art of Joe King - View Tattoo Gallery - Email Artist

This tale begins more than a decade ago in a land far, far away from these United States. Our kingdom's northern villages had been ravaged by the great storm and beasts began to roam the lands. They were vicious night dwelling creatures and their appetites, insatiable. No mortals dared go out at night and all who desired life swore allegiance to the Dark King.

I was raised in the mountains by a secret society of warrior monks, remnants of the old world, and was said to have been born from a vision by a high priest millennia ago. Some say I simply "appeared" in this time…That I was destined to take the throne as my own and slay the Dark King. Therefore in my twentieth year I set out on the long journey to concur the throne of the high tower.

After weeks of perilous travel through the secret mountain pass a terrible blizzard came over the land, forcing me to seek refuge in a cave just outside the eastern plains.  Deep in the the caves cavernous corridors I met a traveler and mystic who like my self sought refuge in the belly of the Earth. He was a strange man and his skin danced with bizarre pictures and colors unknown in that time. After days in the cave he shared with me a sacramental herb of his land and the rituals of tattooing. I have done that ever since.
